Intro to Visual Arts

Jamie Thornton

Jamie was born in Fort Worth, Texas. At an early age, she found her passion for visual arts; she studied various mediums, such as acrylic, colored pencil, oil pastels, and charcoal. In college, she continued to study the arts as well as earning a B.S. in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Educational Ministries at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. She is a teacher at Covenant Christian Academy in Pinellas Park, FL.

In adulthood, Jamie has carried her love of the arts into her classroom. Her students have learned color theory, how to use different mediums, and how art plays a significant role in history. Jamie has continued to develop her artistic skills, particularly in painting. She has been commissioned to paint murals, instruct painting classes, and paint as an aid to worship in churches throughout the U.S. and New Zealand.

Jamie is married to Dillon. They have two sons, Aidan and Cullen. Their family currently serves at Faith Church.


Description of the Class

Students will be introduced to the elements of art with a focus on color, the most expressive element. They will explore color through analysis of works of art by various artists, learn how colors relate to each other on the color wheel, and create works of art using a variety of art materials. Students will learn to express themselves through their art.
